Valentine’s Day gifts on a budget: sweet deals for your sweetheart

Finding the perfect gift for one’s significant other on Valentine’s Day can be difficult, especially on a college student’s budget. Seton Hall students shared advice on creative gift ideas that deviate from the ordinary chocolates and roses. Various students offer sentimental couple gifts that say “I love you” while maintaining a college budget.

Couple’s Massage

Olivia Martino, a senior communications major, shared her thoughts about a couple’s massage.

“I can’t imagine anyone who wouldn’t want to be gifted a massage,” Martino said. “Everyone could use some time to unwind these days, and what better way than to do it with the person you love.”

Groupon offers deals all year long, and not just for Valentine’s Day. Their website presents the opportunity to take advantage of any last-minute events perfect for a date night.

Oranges Spa, a massage spa on Valley Street in South Orange, offers couple massages for time limits of an hour and an hour and a half. It is open from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. seven days a week.

Framed Picture

These days, it is possible to print photos at every drug store, and with constant updates, people are given many more options. The most recent advancement is the ability to print Boomerang pictures, with franchises like Pops, allowing a person to relive a memory in a unique and fun way. Rite Aid especially has in-store photo offers for the whole month of February for digital prints.

Erin Neupauer, a junior film major, expressed her liking of a good framed picture.

“I love printing pictures whenever I get the chance,” Neupauer said. “We walk around with so many amazing moments captured on our phone but rarely look at them.”

Samantha Innamorato, a junior film major, said she was faced with the same dilemma.

“I realized when looking at all my pictures that I loved too many not to combine them,” Innamorato said. “I decided the best thing to do was to make a calendar so more than one could have the spotlight.”

Cologne/Perfume

“Everyone loves to smell great,” Amber Puig, a senior film major, said. “I get to smell my boyfriend when he wears the cologne I get him, so it’s almost like a gift for me too.”

With companies like Scentbird, one can have the opportunity to customize a collection of colognes and perfumes for a monthly gift. For a cheap, affordable price, a person can give a gift that really makes “scents.” In addition, for a limited time only, Victoria’s Secret’s PINK has dropped the prices of mini mists to $5.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

To put a twist on the classic box of chocolates, a person can make a batch of chocolate covered strawberries on their own. “It’s way more thoughtful than running down to Rite Aid and getting a chocolate heart box,” said Martino. “The ingredients are cheap, they’re easy to make, and it’ll mean so much more to get something homemade.”

If homemade is not someone’s cup of tea, they can buy chocolate covered strawberries. Edible Arrangements has coupon codes and special offers for Valentine’s Day. For a box of Valentine’s Day Berries, one can save $5.99 when ordering two boxes. They also offer free delivery with certain coupon codes.
