Seton Hall’s Student Activity Board (SAB) announced on Instagram that they will be hosting a comedy event featuring Josh Peck on March 1 in the Main Lounge. Several students were upset that the tickets quickly sold out.
Mikaela Battaglia, a social and behavioral science major, expressed her anger about the limited supply of tickets.
“I am upset because about two hours after the post came out, they were already sold out,” Battaglia said.
One Instagram comment on the announcement post read, “You’d think it would be easier to get a bigger venue than to contact Josh Peck himself,” user (emilyarch1) said.
The Student Activities Board became aware of the high demand and released a statement on Instagram shortly after.
“With respect to tickets selling out, we have been brainstorming and will begin releasing tickets to students via the waitlist starting this week!” SAB posted.
Although SAB was quickly working on solving the issue, Alessia Lombardi, a freshman biology major, said she was still upset about the situation.
“I am upset because the only way we found out was through an Instagram post and I was in the middle of doing homework,” Lombardi said. “I’m not going to stop and sign up for Josh Peck.”
Alison Sotolongo Miller, director of student activities, previously said that they were working with campus partners to look into alternative options and will begin releasing tickets to students on the waitlist as spots become available.
Miller also described what the process is like to book a famous entertainer like Josh Peck.
“The planning process is detailed, extensive and must remain private,” Miller said. “We are unable to make any announcements or share any details with the general public until it is agreed upon by both the university and artists’ team.”
Miller added that the organizers are expecting a full attendance for the comedic lecture, but added that they did not anticipate the tickets to sell out as quickly as they did.
Miller said that the response they received was by far the largest reaction to a Student Activities Board lecture event in years.
According to SAB’s Instagram and Eventbrite, they have since then resolved the issue by moving the event to Bethany Hall.
The update on the Eventbrite page now reads, “Due to high demand, this event has been moved to Bethany Hall. Tickets are gradually being released to the waitlist.”
