The Seton Hall men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each came away with victories against Montclair State University on Friday evening. The women’s team broke three pool records as it won its second consecutive meet to begin the season, 141-96. The men’s team bounced back from its opening season loss in impressive fashion with a 134-66 victory. The women’s team wasted no time asserting its dominance at the meet, as the four-person team of Julie Stankiewicz, Jordan Decker, Amelia Wootton and Courtney McCardle swam a pool-record 1:49.88 in the 200-meter relay. [caption id="attachment_24481" align="aligncenter" width="838"] Photo via SHU Athletics[/caption] Heidi Dickson continued her good start to the season by winning the 100-meter fly and helping her team set the pool record for the 400-meter free relay swim. Wootton, McCardle and Theresa Hutton joined Dickson in the group that set the record. Sara Ouellette set the other record when she posted a 1:56.62 in the 200-meter free. The freshman members of the men’s team were on fire, as four members won in six different individual events. Joe Gibson and Ben Puglessi partnered with Liam Cosgrove and Josh Tosoni to set a pool-record time of 1:34.99 in the 200-meter relay. Gibson followed by setting his own individual pool record after clocking a 9:46.78 in the 1000-meter free. Puglessi also went on to win the 100-meter fly after swimming a 47.41. Ben LaClair won two individual races in the 50-meter free and 100-meter back. Mark Kantzler and Caleb Smith completed the freshmen trifecta that won the 400-meter free relay alongside Cosgrove. Christian Kopecki also claimed a win in the 500-meter free in exhibition with a time of 4:50.28. Next on the Pirate’s schedule is the West Virginia Tri-Meet where they will face off against West Virginia University, Butler University and Xavier University on Oct. 19 and Oct. 20.
