New ranking shows Stillman’s hunger for success

The Stillman School of Business is on the rise, as it is ranked 108 in US News & World Report’s 2019 America’s Best College Guides among the “Best Undergraduate Business Programs.” The School rose one spot since last year, and over 20 places in the last three years. These are conducted only by schools with accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Only 187 schools worldwide hold this prestigious accreditation for both their business and accounting programs. Dr. Joyce Strawser, dean and associate professor for the Stillman School of Business said she is “very excited” about Stillman’s progress, and disclosed her opinion on the new ranking. “The ranking is based on the assessment of our peers, and what they believe is the quality of the school,” Strawser said. “It is quite hard to change perceptions of what quality is, therefore we must give real credit to our students and faculty members.” When asked whether she thought the ranking was accurate, Strawser said, “I think it is a bit underrated, however people are impressed.” It does not seem rare, that the Stillman School of Business ranks higher than previous years, as this rise goes on par with the increase of undergraduate enrollment and employment rates amongst the graduates. However, when asked about Stillman’s true formula for success Dean Strawser was clear. “When we think about what we want for our programs, we always ask ourselves what is best for our students, how they can grow as people,” she said. “We need to get the best value out of our educational system,” Strawser also commented on whether she expects the ranking to rise even higher in the foreseeable future. She said, “I hope so; with quality perception it is hard to say how quickly. Ranking may rise, but it might take a while.” Stillman students find that the school’s success relies on the dedicated faculty members and internship opportunities. Ethan Atiles, a freshman in the business school, discussed why he chose to attend the University. “The Stillman School of Business was actually a major reason on me attending Seton Hall University,” he said. “I had heard so many nice things about Stillman and with that, learned of its amazing reputation as well. I knew that the Stillman School of Business would help set me on the right track for a great future.” Matthew Duane, a pre-business student also shared his opinion on the school. “Not many schools can boast being so close to New York City and put their students in a position to hold internships on Wall Street throughout the year,” Duane said. “I’ve seen friends of mine with Stillman degrees, receive great opportunities after graduation exactly because of this, making Seton Hall an obvious choice for me.” Emilio Garcia Rodriguez can be reached at emilio.garciarodriguez@student.shu.edu.
