The Seton Hall women’s volleyball team fell, 3-0, to Saint John’s University on Saturday night. The Pirates, now 0-5 in Big East play, drop to 5-13 on the season.
In the first set, it was all Red Storm, as the Pirates never gained lead. After falling into a 12-5 deficit, the Pirates cut the lead to 17-14, but the Red Storm would answer back with an 8-1 run. Seton Hall would ultimately drop the set, 25-15.
The Pirates did slightly better in the next set, securing a 7-6 lead at one point. However, the Red Storm would answer back with another 8-1 run, taking a 14-8 lead over the Pirates.

Later in the set, Haylee Gasser recorded a kill that made the game 24-23. The persistent Red Storm, though, gained match point shortly after to win the set.
The Pirates started set three leading 9-5 with key blocks by Amanda Rachwal and Emillee Turner.
After trailing 14-13, the Red Storm were once again able to battle back, scoring five straight points to take a 18-14 lead. The Red Storm would score seven out of the last ten points as well to win the set 25-17.
The Red Storm finished with a .319 attack percentage compared to Seton Hall’s .154. The Red Storm also bested the Pirates in kills, 51 to 27, and digs, 55 to 47.
Caitlin Koska had six kills and a team-high 13 digs. Abby Thelen also had six kills on the night, while Sophia Coffey had 11 assists, six digs, and three service aces.
The team’s next match will be Friday, Oct. 5 against Creighton University. Match time is scheduled at 8:00 p.m.
