On Sept. 19, Mike Deej returned to Seton Hall's Pirate's Cove to perform for the Student Activities Board (SAB) Coffeehouse. He covered some songs such as Ben E King's "Stand By Me," the Lumineers' "Ho Hey," and Billy Joel's "For the Longest Time." Allison Kroeger, a junior economics and finance one of the co-chairs of Coffeehouse, shared why SAB chose to have Deej return to campus. "We always love having Mike Deej back at Coffeehouse because he is an extremely talented artist and a campus hit," Kroeger said. "It is important to all of us in SAB to not only bring performers to campus, but to also show off the talent we have here at Seton Hall. Mike knows how to engage with the student body and he always sings covers of popular songs in order to keep students attentive during his performance." "I have been performing for the Coffeehouse for eight to nine years once a year,” he said. “I even grew up in this area." As a fan of Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, and acoustic music, Deej said his goal in writing music is to "combine soft tones with upbeat messages." Deej advised that students take time to enjoy themselves and their passions. Deej said, "There is more to life than just schoolwork. Do not put too much pressure on yourself and be well-rounded." A few students also shared their thoughts and experiences at Deej's performance. Gabriel Richman, a junior math major, said he thought the Coffeehouse performance was refreshing. "It was nice to see someone with such talent and devotion to music,” he said. “It was soothing to sit there and just chat as we listened to his list of songs." Taliah Gresham, a junior English major, said the event was relaxing and fun. “It reminded me of this musical event my high school put on to showcase the guitar students," she said. "Everyone was just calm it was good way to pretty much end the night. Good music and friends are really always a good time." Michael Mcmurtry, a sophomore English major, said he also enjoyed the performance. "It was really good,” Mcmurty said. He sang very relevant songs and very catchy songs. He seemed very invested in his music and very passionate about his music." For those interested in attending, SAB typically holds Coffeehouses every Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in the Pirate’s Cove.
