The Seton Hall baseball team lost to Wagner for the first time since 2010 after falling 4-2 on Wednesday. The Pirates pitched well overall, but could not stack up enough offense against the Seahawks.
The game started with drama, as Seton Hall got out of a bases-loaded jam thanks to a diving catch made in center field. However, the umpires changed the call and made Seton Hall come back and pitch, down 1-0 due to the ruling. The Pirates opted to play under protest, as coach Rob Shepard said he had “never seen that call before.” The Pirates then got out of the inning without any more damage.

Ryan Ramiz singled to start to bottom of the second inning for the Pirates, and eventually scored thanks to a Connor Hood sac-hit. But the Pirates struggled to score further, as the game stayed knotted at one run a piece through two innings.
Wagner put on an offensive show in the top of the third inning thanks to two walks, one hit and two errors. This allowed the Seahawks to open a 4-1 lead, which they held through the next five innings.
The Hall did not cut into the lead until the bottom of the sixth inning after Ryan Ramiz doubled, stole third and scored on a ground ball. Unfortunately for the Hall, the Pirates did not muster up anything else, and the score stayed at 4-2.
Seton Hall pitched well for the remainder of the game, but ultimately could not get enough offense to make a difference. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Christian Del Castillo made things interesting by hitting a leadoff double and stealing third on a wild pitch with two outs. However, Al Molina struck out swinging, and Wagner closed out the game to improve to 16-10.
Playing well for the Pirates were Rob Dadona with two hits, Ramiz with three hits and two runs and numerous Pirates pitchers in relief.
“It’s good for those guys to show what they can do and solidify the bullpen,” Sheppard said.
Up next for the Pirates is a doubleheader against Farleigh Dickinson on April 8 in South Orange.
