Sydney Simpson finished first in the 100-meter butterfly as she led the Seton Hall women’s swimming and diving team to a fourth overall finish in the Patriot Invitational, held at George Mason University. Meanwhile, Tyler Yanchulis, Tyler Kauth, John Redoutey and Dakota Williams finished second out of 14 teams with a time of 1:22.44 in the 200-meter freestyle relay as they led the men’s team to a similar fourth-place finish. Although the efforts for the men’s side didn’t equate to a win, the performance in that 200-meter relay equaled one of the top 50 finishes so far this season in all of college swimming. Overall, the team showed progress from the same competition last season. And Grubert was far from done. He continued to help the Pirates to more success as he swam alongside Yanchulis, Kauth, and Vadim Jacobson to help the quartet come away victorious in the 800-meter freestyle relay. In the 400-meter medley, a squad comprised of Kauth, Joshua Tosoni, Liam Cosgrove, and Dakota Williams finished second overall with a time of 3:21.02. The star of the day for the women was Simpson who not only won the 100-meter butterfly, but earned second place in the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke. Her 100-meter breaststroke time was 1:03.25, and her 200-meter came in at 2:19.01; a season-best for the senior. The women’s team also had Jill Calocino finish third out of 27 in the 1650-meter freestyle with a time of 16:59.17, while teammate Sara Ouellette took fourth in the 200-meter backstroke as she posted a time of 2:01.15. Continuing a strong fall portion of the season, Taylor Jackson finished in third in the one-meter dive and fourth in the three-meter dive. Her score for the one meter was 254.70, while her three-meter score totaled 231.90. In the relays, a time of 1:36.39 in the 200-meter, earned by a grouping of Jordan Decker, Kylene Ronayne, Amelia Wootton and Clara Capone, was good enough for sixth place out of 18 teams. The next time the two teams will line up against competing schools will be after their mid-season break, on Jan. 13, against Drexel and Towson in Philadelphia, Pa.
