The Seton Hall men’s soccer team was unable to continue their winning streak as they fell on the road to Providence, 3-1. The Pirates gave up two first half goals and were unable to recover from the Friars’ consistent pressure, lowering their overall record to 5-7-1 and conference record to 2-3.
Providence came out with an aggressive playstyle in the first half that the Pirates were unable to adapt to. The hostile attack brought about 10 fouls by the Friars, but Seton Hall was incapable of capitalizing, as the Pirates were only able to get off two shots, with neither resulting in a goal.

The first goal for Providence came off the boot of Big East scoring leader Mac Steeves. The goal was the first of two for Steeves, as the forward finished off his own rebound in the 39th minute. His next goal came six minutes later on a corner kick, as Steeves jumped above the rest of the defenders to head the ball into the back of the net. The first half brace for Steeves put Seton Hall in a 0-2 hole going into the half.
Coming out of the break, Seton Hall was looking to bounce back from their late-half mishaps. Instead, the Pirates conceded another goal within the first 12 minutes as Friars forward Matt Peperro was able to beat the last Seton Hall defender, and calmly place the ball into the right corner of the net.
The game would stall at 3-0 until the 88th minute, when the Pirates finally broke through offensively, with forward Marco Neves registering a late goal. Neves was able to score from the left side of the box from a deflection off a Providence defender, erasing the home side’s clean sheet.
The road does not get any easier for Seton Hall following their 3-1 defeat, as they will now move on to face current Big East leaders Georgetown on Oct. 21, in Washington, D.C.
