Pirates pitcher Cullen Dana was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team on Wednesday. Last year, Shane McCarthy was the impact starting pitcher as a freshman. Dana took on that role this year, leading the team in wins (7) and sitting in fourth place in strikeouts (66). He also allowed just 52 hits in 72 innings pitched, with a minuscule .201 opposing batting average. Dana’s seven wins were good enough for second in the Big East and he finished top-10 in strikeouts and earned run average. This marks the third straight season that Seton Hall has had a member on the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team. Shane McCarthy earned those honors last season, while Anthony Pacillo was named to the team two years ago.
