“It felt a lot like home. A lot of us are from New York and there were a lot of Pirate fans here and a lot of friends and family,” Carrington said of playing at Madison Square Garden, the arena being close to his native Brooklyn.
Carrington had a career-high of 27 points, with five of those coming from three pointers in the victory.
“I think I did a great job tonight, I think my team did a great job tonight, they came back they made their runs," he said. "It just happened that we made our run at the end and got the W.”
Whitehead recorded a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. One of those rebounds came in the final seconds of the game to ensure the victory.
“I think I played a little bit of an all-around game, I made some mistakes down the stretch but I think I made up for them with the two big rebounds and big blocks," he said. "It was just about making big plays at the end and not focusing on what happened before.”
Entering halftime, the Pirates led the Bluejays 39-30 with 11 of those points coming from Whitehead. What was mostly all Seton Hall basketball in the first half, changed in the second.
The Hall had trouble stopping Cole Huff, who put up a majority of Creighton’s points. He ended the night with 35 points.
Desi Rodriguez and Angel Delgado both had quiet games, as Rodriguez didn’t see much action in the second half while Delgado finished with only three points.
“We’re still young at times, and sometimes we get a little emotional and let’s just say we’ve all learned to ride the emotions of our guys," head coach Kevin Willard said of Rodriguez only playing four minutes in the second half.
Next up for the Hall is Xavier in the tournament's semifinals. SHU will take on the Musketeers Friday night at 9 p.m. back at The Garden.
