The Seton Hall women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches after a convincing victory against Fairfield on Saturday. The Pirates’ success was highlighted by contributions from the whole team, which held Fairfield scoreless with a 7-0 victory.
Seniors Hannah Liljekvist and Julia Keenan, joined by sophomore Luize Strike, continued their impressive seasons by remaining undefeated in singles play. Liljekvist and Keenan showed some veteran skill with clean 6-0 sweeps of their opponents after two sets.
The singles matches were rounded out by senior Isabell Klingert, who is poised for another great run after leading the team in singles wins last season, and sophomore Marisa Quevedo, who shut out her opponent in the second set. Sophomore Katie Kim also continued her winning ways from the team’s last matchup against NJIT and earned her second singles win of the season.
The doubles performances were equally remarkable, led by the duo of Liljekvist and Strike, who swept their opponents. They continue to solidify themselves as one of the best twosomes in the Big East.
Pairs Keenan and Quevedo and Kim and Klingert, dominated their own doubles matches by only giving up one set each. The teams combined for an outstanding score of 18-2 against the Stags.
Seton Hall held Fairfield to no more than three wins during the day, showing the team’s depth in an already impressive season soured by an opening day loss.
The Pirates have bounced back since then and showed just how dangerous they can be. Dominant is an understatement to describe The Hall’s recent play, as the team has outscored opponents 17-4 over its last three matches during the current winning streak.
The team will return to action this weekend when its squares off with rival Rutgers in New Providence, New Jersey.
