Harrell, Mogues and Prendergast earn Big East awards

  Three Seton Hall athletes have been honored with Big East Player of the Week accolades. Yasmin Harrell was named Softball Player of the Week while the baseball team’s Mikael-Ali Mogues and Zach Prendergast earned Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The announcement came on Monday following the softball team’s 4-1 performance at the Kickin’ Chicken Classic and the baseball team’s 2-2 opening series with Missouri. Not only did Harrell earn a conference honor this week, but she also set a new Pirates record when she stole the 70th base of her four-year career at the Hall. Harrell went 9-for-19 (.474) and had at least one hit in all five games of the Classic. In the four straight weekend wins, she scored two runs to close the tournament. So far this season, Harrell leads the team with a .412 batting average, 11 runs scored and seven stolen bases. It is also the second week in a row that a Seton Hall softball player has won Player of the Week, as Alexis Walkden took the honor last week.

On the baseball side, Mogues had at least one hit in all four games and reached base a total of 13 times. In the team’s first game on Friday, Feb. 19 the junior went 2-for-3 with a double. In Game 1 of Saturday’s double-header, he made noise by going 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and an RBI. In Game 2’s win, he reached base four times, going 2-for-3 with two walks and a run scored. Then on Sunday - another win - Mogues reached base four times again, going 1-for-2 with two walks, a hit-by-pitch, an RBI and two runs scored. Mogues also led the team in batting average (.636), slugging percentage and on-base percentage. Prendergast pitched seven innings and gave up just one run in Sunday’s game.
