Women's basketball dominates on the road, improves to 9-1

The Seton Hall women’s basketball team dominated Liberty on Saturday, winning 92-56 on the road in the first meeting between the teams. Leading the way for the Pirates was senior Tiffany Jones, who scored 21 points and pulled down six rebounds. Jones got hot early, scoring 10 of her 21 points in the first quarter. She shot 57 percent and hit four threes in seven attempts. It was an off game for leading scorer Tabitha Richardson-Smith, as she only shot 30 percent and scored nine points. For the season, the senior is averaging almost 17 points per game. Graduate student Shakena Richardson nearly had a double-double with 12 points and nine assists. The leading scorer for the Lady Flames was junior Mickayla Sanders, who had 12 points on 40 percent shooting in her first game back from injury. Senior Ashley Rininger was held in check, scoring four points on 2-9 shooting. The Pirates led the entire game and led by as much as 37. They shot 49 percent from the field and 48 percent from three-point range while having four players score in double figures. Seton Hall turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, holding Liberty to only 18 points on 12 percent shooting. For the game, the Lady Flames shot 30 percent overall, but shot 41 percent from three-point range. The Pirates out rebounded Liberty 42-32 and moved the ball well with 24 assists compared to Liberty’s 10. Turnovers hurt the Lady Flames, who had 20 while Seton Hall had 12. The next game for the Pirates is home against Saint Peter’s, Sunday, Dec. 20 at 12 p.m.
