Pirates fall in straight sets against Xavier

The Seton Hall Pirates volleyball team dropped its third straight game Friday night on the road against Xavier in straight sets.

 

With the loss, the Pirates drop to 11-15 on the season and 5-9 in Big East play.

 

After dropping the first set 25-17 and the second 25-18, the Pirates had their best chance to take a set during the third, yet lost 25-22.

 

The Musketeers were showed a balanced attack throughout the match. Sofia Peterson led the way for Xavier with 10 kills on 16 attack attempts. Abbey Bessler, Makayl Agin, and Kristen Massa also contributed for the Musketeers with eight kills apiece. 

 

For the Pirates, Danielle Schroeder led the attack with 14 kills, which was a game high. Freshman Cherise Hennigan also racked up double digit kills with 10 to help the Hall’s attack.

 

The Hall also saw a great performance by Tessa Fournier who collected a game high 17 digs to go along with two assists.

Throughout the match, Xavier was able to exploit Seton Hall’s errors. The Pirates had 7 more attack errors than the Musketeers.

 

As Big East play comes to an end, Seton Hall moves down to seventh place in the conference with a 5-9 record.

 

On the other side, Xavier moves up to third place with a 10-3 record and is positioning well for the upcoming Big East Tournament.

 

Seton Hall will resume action on Sunday when they travel to Indianapolis to face off against Butler at 2 p.m.
