The Seton Hall volleyball team found itself suddenly on a winning streak in Ithaca, N.Y. on Saturday at the Cornell Invitational.
The team had been struggling as of late, coming into the tournament with a record of 4-6 while also riding a four-game losing streak. That all changed however after the Hall defeated host Cornell in three straight sets to win in the afternoon and then beat Binghamton in five sets to complete the double-header.
Senior Sara Connell had shined in the first match against the Big Red. She more than doubled her previous career-high for assists, which was 10, with 23 in Saturday’s contest. She had seven digs as well.
Amanda Hansen, another senior, had a match-high 10 kills. The Pirates never trailed after they scored four points in a row in the second set. The team came out to play, beating host Cornell in every stat category.
Hansen came through again in the next match with Binghamton, posting 20 kills to go along with her five blocks. She also moved into fourth place on the all-time block list at Seton Hall with 421 for her career.
The Pirates took the first two sets from the Bears but lost the next two, leading to a crucial fifth set. There, the Hall stood tall and came through with the victory after freshman Caitlin Koska sealed it with a kill.
Seton Hall will move forward and kick off Big East play against Creighton next week in Omaha, Neb., at 8 p.m.
