Seton Hall Athletics[/caption]
The Seton Hall volleyball team captured its first Big East victory of the season as they took down the Georgetown Hoyas 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Each squad was able to grab a victory in the first two sets, and Georgetown looked poised to take the third as well. After trailing 18-14, the Pirates went on an 11-3 run to close out the third set though to take a commanding 2-1 lead in the match. With their backs against the wall, the Hoyas came out firing on all cylinders in the fourth set, winning 25-20 to force a fifth and final set.
The two teams traded points to start the set, but Seton Hall was eventually able to take control and win 15-7, giving the Pirates the 3-2 victory in the match.
Danielle Schroeder, Amanda Hansen, and Cherise Hennigan each led the way offensively for Seton Hall with 15, 14, and 11 kills respectively. Tessa Fournier, the team leader in digs, shined again for the Pirates by racking up 26 digs.
The obvious offensive leader for Georgetown was Liv King, who tallied 23 kills on the afternoon to lead all players. Lauren Saar and Alyssa Sinnette also did their part for the Hoyas, contributing 12 kills each. Georgetown shot themselves in the foot throughout the match, committing 31 errors, 15 of which were service errors.
The Pirates return home this Friday for the first time in a month as they will take on DePaul at 7 p.m.
