Delgado, Gibbs earn Metro honors

[caption id="attachment_9909" align="aligncenter" width="765"] Seton Hall Athletics[/caption] The Seton Hall men’s basketball team was awarded with a pair of Metro New York City honors Wednesday afternoon with freshman Angel Delgado named Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Co-Rookie of the year, while junior Sterling Gibbs was named second team All-Met. Delgado is one of eight Seton Hall players to receive this honor and the first since 2007. Gibbs’ selection to the second team makes it the 10^th year in a row Seton Hall received an All-Met selection. As one of the nation’s leading freshman rebounders as well as Big East Rookie of the Year, Delgado averaged 9.8 rebounds per game. He earned the conference rebounding title with posting 10.7 rebounds per in conference game, becoming the first freshman to do so since Notre Dame’s Troy Murphy in 1997. He also averaged 9.8 points per conference game. Three-time Big East Rookie of the Week, Delgado led the conference in double-doubles with 10 on the season, including seven coming from conference play. One of his signature games came against DePaul on January 22^nd where he totaled 19 points and 19 rebounds, the second most rebounds ever by a freshman in a Big East conference game. Gibbs, who has previously been named to second-team All-Big East, NABC All-District 5, two-time Big East Player of the Week and five-time selection to the Honor Roll, enjoyed a breakout season where he at the top of the Big East in numerous different categories. Gibbs was fifth in scoring, fifth in assists, second in three-point shooting, second in three-pointers made, and sixth in assist/turnover ratio. His three-point shooting was also the ninth-best in the country. He was the only Big East player to have top five rankings in scoring, assists, and three-point shooting. Gibbs had nine 20-point games this season, including a career-high of 40 points in the championship game of the 2014 Paradise Jam. Eight of those nine 20-point games came during Big East play. Seven times this season he was able to put up more than 15 points and five assists. He also made four or more in a game eight times this season. With some thinking Gibbs deserved first team honors, the guard took to Twitter to comment on his selection. “Second team in the metropolitan area?
