The South Asian Student Association (SASA) will be holding its second annual formal on Friday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center Main Lounge. The formal’s theme will be “A Red Carpet Affair With a Twist.” The “twist” added into the theme can be explained by the well-known Bollywood culture in South Asia. This semi-formal event invites students to dance the night away with a DJ and South Asian cuisine. SASA also extended the invite to many on-campus organizations. “We reach out to so many organizations on campus to join us as well, because at SASA we work to involve as much of the campus as we can,” said Feba Samji, SASA president, a junior biology and physical therapy major. SASA has been planning their formal for a while to make sure everything will go as planned. “We’ve been planning for a couple months to ensure we had the perfect DJ, caterer, decorations and theme,” said Jennifer Panicker, SASA vice president, a sophomore biology and physical therapy major. There will be performances from SHU Raas, SHU Sitare, Harleen Kaur, Montclair Indian dance team and African Students’ Dance Team, Mausam, an Indian restaurant in Montclair, will cater the food and the two MC’s are Shaw Benotakeia and Matthew Ullrich. The SASA formal is a way of further informing students about South Asia. “SASA strives to educate the Seton Hall campus about the South Asian culture,” Samji said. "We love sharing our culture with everyone we meet, but what is great about SASA is we learn about the various cultures within South Asia.” SASA promotes students to form a long lasting bond with one another in the club. “I joined SASA because I saw a strong community within the organization,” said Panicker. “I made a ton of friends through SASA and learned a lot about my culture.” Tickets for the formal can be purchased at Galleon Hall this week or through Eventbrite using the keywords “A Red Carpet Affair.” Tickets cost $10 and will not be sold at the door. “The formal is a way for the SASA members and the Seton Hall community to get together and celebrate a great year as an organization,” Panicker said.
