You may have heard of award ceremonies such as Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice awards, the Grammys, Emmys and Oscars. However, another awards ceremony is going on as well, the Jersey Arts Awards, and one of the candidates is the South Orange Performing Arts Center.
SOPAC has been nominated in the seventh annual Jersey Arts People’s Choice awards is the new category “Favorite Small Performing Arts Center.”
In this category, 10 arts districts and 96 organizations are nominated for the yearly awards program run by Discover Jersey Arts, a project of the ArtPride New Jersey Foundation and New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State dedicated to increasing the awareness of and participation in the arts in the state.
Ballots are prepped for art lovers across the state to vote for their favorite New Jersey arts organizations in 16 categories. From favorite theatre camp to favorite performing arts center, favorite art gallery to favorite downtown arts district, it’s the public’s turn to decide who’s who among the Garden State’s cultural community.
“The nominees should be very proud of the work they’re doing to establish New Jersey as a destination for arts and culture,” said Jim Atkinson, ArtPride New Jersey Foundation’s Director of Programs and Services.
SOPAC is a place familiar to Seton Hall students. Located at1 SOPAC Way, South Orange, it contains the Bow Tie cinema and hosts performances that range from jazz to full on plays enacted both by Seton Hall theatre students and others. It has been a source of entertainment and performing arts since 2006. SOPAC’s welcoming environment combined with a strong intent to expand its offerings through partnerships with the Juilliard School of Music and other organizations makes it a strong competitor among current nominees.
Public voting runs through Feb. 19 and can be submitted through any valid email address. Winners will be announced soon after the deadline and will be honored at the New Jersey Conference on Tourism, held each year at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City.
