Thanksgiving is a time to spend with friends and family, to relax and take a break from work or school for a few days. Being in college doesn’t change that. Most students start counting down the days until Thanksgiving break the moment they get back from fall break.
With a combination of in state and out of state students at Seton Hall, Thanksgiving plans often vary. In state students go home, but out of state students spend the holiday with nearby family or friends or even stay on campus. Wherever students are going this holiday, they are sure to find some much needed relaxation.
Freshman Madison Bruce from Arizona said: “I’m not going back to Arizona, but I’m lucky enough to have an aunt 40 minutes away in East Brunswick, so I’m taking Heather (Kwityn), my roommate, and we’re going to her house for Thanksgiving.”
Thanksgiving is a time to not only relax, but to also enjoy good, home cooked food. For some students, this will be their first visit home all semester. As great as the cafeteria food is, there is nothing like a home cooked meal.
“I'm going home and doing the typical: seeing friends, eating food and standing in long lines for absolutely no reason,” freshman Aamna Aamir said, referring to Black Friday shopping lines.
Students who aren’t going home for the holidays haven’t been left behind. Many in-state students are eager to welcome their out-of-state friends into their homes.
“I’m going to a friend’s house and having a first-time Thanksgiving dinner,” said Hanna Miura, a foreign exchange student from Tokyo.
“Heather is from Chicago, so it’s nice to know that we’ve both got somewhere to go,” Bruce said.
Seton Hall has set up a volunteer program for families to welcome international students into their home over the holiday. The program began last year and was able to accommodate a few international students.
For students who are flying home for the holiday, there will be a shuttle to Newark Airport on Nov. 26. The cost of the shuttle is $22.09. The shuttle will depart in front of Duffy Hall at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Students must have a valid Seton Hall ID to board the shuttle.
