The women’s soccer team will try to break their three-game losing streak with their first win in Big East play against Creighton on Sunday.

The Pirates (3-7-2, 0-3-0 Big East) were shutout for the eighth time this season, fourth time at home to DePaul, 1-0. The Pirates and Blue Demons played a closely contested match with neither team giving up any ground till the end of the second half when senior Amber Paul found the back of the net on a free kick to get the match’s lone goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Illissa Blackshear made two saves in the game and was spotless until the yielded goal at the 84th minute of play.
The loss to DePaul was one of three Big East matches the women’s team previously losing to the Butler and the Providence on the road.
Looking ahead, the team’s next match brings SHU to Omaha, Neb., and a meeting with the Creighton Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays won their first Big East match of the season against Providence on Thursday in a double-overtime win, 2-1. The Pirates will look to get their first conference win against Creighton.
The, Pirates enter Saturday’s match having not scored in over 270 minutes of play. Needless to say getting the offense back on track is the point of focus.
The team’s last goal was scored in a win a 3-1 win over LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 19. Senior and East Brunswick, N.J.,-native Angie Shehaj was found by Sarah Cortes for an off-cross shot at the 73rd minute to score what has to this date, been the last goal the blue and white have scored.
On the other side of the ball, defense will be the key in getting a win against Creighton. The Pirates have given up six goals in their last three matches after giving up only six goals in the first nine games of the season. The Pirates will need strong play from Blackshear in order to earn Seton Hall’s first Big East win.
