The women’s volleyball team heads to Stony Brook on Tuesday, looking to bounce back following a 3-1 loss to Marquette on Saturday.
The Pirates are in the midst of a storybook season. Currently, the team is tied for first place in the Big East Conference with Creighton at 8-1. The Pirates are led by senior Stacey Manthorpe who is averaging 3.45 kills per set while her twin-sister Shelbey averages 9.74 assists per set.
Sophomore Tessa Fournier is holding down the fort at libero with 412 digs this season, averaging 5.28 per set as she takes over for recent graduate, Alyssa Warren.
The Pirates are looking to get back to their winning ways against a Stony Brook, a team that has been tough to beat at home this season with a 7-1 home record. The Sea Wolves of Stony Brook are coming off a win in their previous match against UMass-Lowell. Stony Brook is led by red-shirted junior Kathy Fletcher who averages 3.05 kills per set.
Don’t let Stony Brook’s mediocre record of 12-10 fool you, this is a tough team that will give the Pirates a test. The Hall will need a good all-around effort in order to beat a team that is nearly unbeatable at home this season.
However, the resiliency of the Pirates has been proven earlier this season as they had comeback victories over St. John’s and Creighton.
The experienced squad of the Pirates will look to swing luck back in their favor as they take on the younger Stony Brooke Seawolves on the road Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
