Time's up

Time is running out for free laundry in the residence halls.

Because of missing electronic parts, laundry has been free in all residence halls since the beginning of the semester. According to Michael Garcia, director of business affairs, the parts for the washers and dryers have been ordered and the mechanics are coming soon.

“We have ordered the parts and have not received a definitive time for their arrival,” he said. “I would surmise that it will be a few more weeks.”

Some students expressed dissatisfaction when asked how they felt about the end of free laundry.

Christopher O’Donnell, a junior Xavier Hall resident said, “It’s rather unfair. The cost of housing, on top of paying for all our other expenses, is high enough as it is. Not a fan of paying for laundry.”

Dan Cummings, a freshman in Boland Hall, shared the sentiments.

“It’s an inconvenience,” he said.

Chelsea Wilson, a sophomore in Serra Hall, considers free laundry a convenience, but she said she understands why it can’t continue to be free.

“I have found the free laundry very convenient and wish it could remain free for the entire year,” she said. “However, the majority of universities in our area do not offer free laundry services, so I understand why the University would charge this additional fee.”
