SAB could have made better choices

Learning that this year there will be no on-campus concert, Fall Fest, seems a little disappointing.

Understandably, Madison Square Garden is a way better venue than the Richie Regan Recreational Center, but not all students are going to be able to travel there. It’s time-consuming to get into the city, not everyone is going to have money for the train ride and some freshmen may not even be allowed to travel into the city without an adult.

The point of a Seton Hall concert is to bring music to campus, not to give students discounted tickets to shows they most likely don’t want to see.

The gesture is there, we see it SHU, but Enrique Iglesias is a weak choice. The ‘90s are over and so is the hype over Iglesias, if there ever really was a hype at all.

Pitbull is an okay choice, I’m sure all the freshmen and sophomores danced to “Give Me Everything” at their senior proms. But it’s still a weak option.

The cost is the problem and we get it, but pop-solo artists are becoming a dying phase anyway. There are some talented and popular bands that Seton Hall could get to come to campus for a low cost.

CHVRCHES is a new electronic band from Scotland that has made quite a name for itself in the United States this past year, playing all the big name music festivals such as Bonnaroo, Coachella and Lollapalooza. They are a pop band, but at least a musically-talented one and probably not that hard to get to come play a show.

Get artists that are relevant to the times. Maybe people are more into Pitbull and Iglesias than we think, but only time and ticket sales will tell.
