With the conviction of the man who murdered Jessica Moore her family can finally start to heal, three years after she was shot to death at an off-campus party.
On Monday 29-year-old Nicholas Welch was convicted of the murder of student Jessica Moore, who was shot at a party in East Orange Sept. 10, 2010. He was also found guilty of the attempted murder of four others: Yvan Christophe, Nakeisha Vanterpool, Nicosia Henry and Daryl Elmore.
Moore's aunt, Cynthia Moore said that their family feels relieved after the verdict. "Some people use the word closure, closure isn't what we feel because our hearts are always going to bleed for the loss of Jessica," she said. "What it does is bring about the start of a healing process."
In a statement on behalf of the University, Director of Media Relations Laurie Pine said Moore's memory will always remain in the heart of the University, "As we respond to these recent events, we come together in faith with thoughts of peace and healing for the Moore family," she said.
Welch's attorney, Thomas Cataldo did not respond to a voicemail message left on Wednesday.
The sentencing is set for 1:30 p.m. on May 30.
