Pirates bats go cold in Sunshine State, lose to Maine 4-1

The softball team (4-16) finished their spring break at the Under Armour Showcase at the University of South Florida on Sunday with a 4-1 loss to Maine.

Seton Hall got on the board first in the second inning after sophomore Alex Rabbetts singled in junior Sara Haefli, who singled and stole second base. The second RBI of the season for Rabbetts gave the Pirates an early 1-0 lead.

Maineanswered right back in the third inning. Freshman Felicia Lennon walked to lead off the inning and later stole second. An RBI single by senior Dagmar Ralphs would score Lennon to tie the score at one run apiece. The Black Bears would threaten for more runs in the inning, but two consecutive fly outs by junior Jessica Burk and freshman Shelby Obert ended the attempt.

Maine would seize their second opportunity for runs, this time in the fourth inning. Two quick outs looked like an easy inning for the Pirates, but a two-out, pinch-hit single by junior EmJ Fogel plated junior Kristen Koslosky and Lennon, who reached on a walk and single respectively.

Seton Hall would only muster one hit the rest of the way.The Black Bears were unable to push anymore runs across, but a 4-1 lead was all they needed against Seton Hall's quiet offense.

The loss is the twelfth out of the last fourteen contests for Seton Hall. The Pirates will play their last game in the USF Under Armour Showcase when they take on Penn on Tuesday, March 11., at 11 a.m.
