Swimming and diving teams ready after Rutgers

Both the men's and women's swimming and diving team had their final regular season meet of the year. They competed against three rival schools: Villanova, Georgetown, and Rutgers.

For the women's swimming, junior Kerrie Kolackovsky set team leading times in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard individual medley, finishing top six in both.

The team used this meet to prepare for the Big East Championship in Indianapolis, Ind on Feb 27.

"It was good to get up and race," said senior Zelenky. "I am sad but excited for my last Big East Championship. This was a great year because as teammates we were really close with each other."

Zelenky has qualified for four events in Indianapolis. They are the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke.

"My goal is to try my hardest and my best," Zelenky said. "We need to go into it with a good attitude because it is the last chance to compete for Seton Hall."

On the men's side, senior Ryan O'Shaughnessy took two top-three individual finishes in the quad meet.

He earned third place with a 53:39 mark in the 100-yard butterfly. He also placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke. Sophomore James Logan finished second and Junior Ian DeLiso finished fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke.

For the divers, sophomore Ben Mitchell earned the top spot out of five other divers in the three-meter board, earning his ninth first place award of the season.

"I was pleased with both the men's and women's team in the quad, but I think we should do better in the Big East Championship," coach Ron Farina said. "The weather really threw us off but it did not hurt us."

Farina said he has goals for the players at the Big East Championship.

"I want the seniors to show leadership to all of the underclassman," Farina said. "I also want them to have fun"
