The men's basketball team lost its eighth game in a row on Tuesday night at the Prudential Center, falling 67-46 to No. 17 Marquette.
The Pirates now drop to an overall record of 13-14 and 2-12 in the Big East.
Junior Fuquan Edwin was the team's leading scorer of the night, posting a total of 14 points and also coming away with 4 steals.
Seton Hall kept up with Marquette in the first half, tying the game with a score of 27-27, after a 3-point basket by sophomore Aaron Cosby and two foul shots from junior Aaron Geramipoor in the final seconds of the half.
The Pirates came out struggling in the second half, going nearly nine minutes without scoring and letting Marquette out score them 24-8 from inside the paint.
"They (Marquette) did a good job of getting after us," head coach Kevin Willard said. "They did a good job of getting some good shots and I think we took some shots that hurt us and it got away from us."
The Pirates have been battling injuries all season, and Willard said that he thinks the injuries have greatly affected the team.
"I think the effect of all the injuries has really demoralized this team," Willard Said. "When Brandon and Patrik were healthy it was a different story. It's wearing down on us more mentally than it is physically. It's hard to battle night after night when you are so undersized."
The Pirates lost junior Patrik Auda at the beginning of the season to a broken foot. Sophomore Brandon Mobley was recently ruled out for the season after it was determined that he needed season ending shoulder surgery.
Moving forward, Willard said he wants to finish the last five games of the season better than the way the team played tonight.
"I want to get back to the way we were playing," Willard said. "I thought we played really hard and really well against Syracuse."
The Pirates return to action Saturday taking on the Louisville Cardinals in Louisville, K.Y. at noon.
