Women's basketball signs two recruits

Women's basketball head coach Anne Donovan announced on Wednesday the signing of a National Letter of Intent by two recruits for the 2013-14 season.

Center Tara Nahodil of Tri-Valley High School in Hegins, Pa. and guard Tianah Alvarado of Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg Fla. will be suiting up in the blue and white.

"I am so pleased to have Tara and Tianah join our program," Donovan said in a statement. "Tara committed to Seton Hall last year and showed us early on that she wanted to be a part of our growing program. Her size and potential are going to be a great addition to our post game. She has the strength and skill set to change the look of our inside game."

Nahodil is rated as the No. 20 post player in her class, according to ESPN Hoop Gurlz, receiving an 88 grade from scouts. The 6-foot-4 center will help both offensively and defensively. In her junior season, Nahodil averaged 16 points, eight rebounds and five blocks per game.

Alvarado, the 5-foot-10 shooting guard average 30 points, six rebounds and four steals per game as a sophomore, helping her team to a 26-4 record and a Florida 4A State Championship. She also played four seasons with the AAU team Essence.

According to Donovan, Alvarado can make an immediate impact for the Pirates next year.

"Tianah's athleticism and scoring prowess will add to our perimeter play immediately," Donovan said. "She is a tremendous athlete with a great feel for the game. Her ability to score from the 3-point line or off the dribble will make her difficult for opponents to defend."

John C. Cotey of the Tampa Bay Times picked Alvarado as a potential candidate for Girls Basketball Player of the Year in the area in March of 2011.
