As students and faculty wrap up their first week back in classes since Hurricane Sandy pounded the east coast with severe winds and heavy downpours, moods are solemn on campus. Many students have experienced or heard of tragedies related to the storm.
In this time of difficulty, it is comforting to know that Seton Hall has taken extensive measures to help struggling students and staff pick up the pieces after Hurricane Sandy.
Counseling services are available on campus for students struggling to come to grips with personal losses as a result of the storm. Parking policies have been adjusted this week to accommodate commuters and carpooling arrangements are available. Seton Hall has also opened up one of its offices in the University Center to students who still need help contacting loved ones.
However, the university is not just limiting its
help to those within the Seton Hall community. The Hall is also reaching out and helping those in surrounding areas affected by the storm.
Various student organizations on campus have begun fundraisers to raise money as well as collecting material goods.
Overall, Seton Hall did an excellent job prior to, during and after the storm to keep students safe and aware of what was going on. Now it is our time to give back.
We urge all students, if they have not already done so, to take some time and help someone else affected by the storm.
Whether it is volunteering, opening up your dorm room to a fellow commuter in need of a place to stay in order to attend classes, contributing financially or just offering a kind word, if everyone does something to support some else, we can be effective and help during this difficult time.
