The men's basketball team leads the UMKC Roos in the season opener, 34-22, at halftime at Walsh Gymnasium.
Sophomore forward Brandon Mobley leads the way for the Pirates with eight points, but the scoring has been balanced. Junior forwards Fuquan Edwin and Patrik Auda have chipped in with seven. Six players have recorded at least one assist.
For the Roos, forward Kirk Korver and guard Estan Tyler have scored six points each.
Freshman Tom Maayan has set the tone defensively for the Pirates, registering three steals.
The Pirates are shooting 52.4 percent from the floor, while holding the Roos to 33.3 percent.
Two problems have come about for the Pirates: sophomore guard Freddie Wilson has been suspended two games for a violation of a team rule, and junior center Eugene Teague has three fouls.
