Rachel Rosenstock, who won her Fulbright Scholarship last year, is the 12th SHU student to receive the award.
The Fulbright Scholarship award is a U.S government sponsored scholarship to teach English or conduct research abroad.
The application process is grueling, and the scholarship is highly competitive.
Rosenstock currently lives in Yilan City, Taiwan and is an English Teaching Assistant at an elementary school.
Rosenstock said she developed a passion for the Chinese language during her freshman year. In the spring semester of her junior year she studied in Shanghai.
"I decided to go to Taiwan because I want to continue to study Chinese," she said. "I can already tell that living and working in a Chinese-speaking environment is helping tremendously."
Living and working in Taiwan also allows Rosenstock to pursue another of her passions. "I really enjoy taking photos and Taiwan has some wonderful scenery and a very vibrant culture that is perfect for photography."
Rosenstock said she hopes to travel to Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia during her 11 months in Taiwan.
After her time in Taiwan, Rosenstock hopes to find a job in an internationally focused company in either Asia or the U.S.
Rosenstock said she plans to earn an MBA to further her goal of opening her own business.
Rosenstock would like to thank Director of the Ruth Sharkey Academic Resource Center Fellowship Adviser, Peter Hynes, for his help. "He was the one who I would go to with any questions I had and who helped me revised my essays time and time again," she said.
