The men's basketball team has added another transfer player, Iona guard Kyle Smyth, according to The Star-Ledger and The Record.
Smyth, a River Edge, N.J. native and Don Bosco Prep alumnus, is the fourth transfer in head coach Kevin Willard's two years at the Hall.
Smyth is eligible to play right away for Seton Hall as a graduate student, according to an article from The Record.
Known for his 3-point shooting, Smyth holds the Iona single-game record of eight 3-pointers made and going into last season ranked No. 7 in school history with 128 career 3-pointers, according to his biography on Iona's athletic website.
Smyth played for Willard from 2008-2010, making Willard no stranger to Smyth's 3-point shooting.
During his career at Iona, Smyth averaged 7.9 points per game, including 10.1 points per game in 2010-11.
Smyth, a four-year guard at Iona, was granted eligibility for a fifth season after an ankle injury in practice ended his 2008-09 campaign. He was granted a medical waiver for that season.
Smyth, currently the only senior on the Pirates roster next season, was named to the All-MAAC Third Team entering last season.
According to his Iona biography page, Smyth is an "extremely hard working player that has a tremendous knowledge of the game."
He will join center Gene Teague, guard/forward Brian Oliver and, pending a hardship waiver, guard Sterling Gibbs as transfers playing for the Pirates next season.
