Unanue Institute leads students to NYC's Museo del Barrio on Friday

The Joseph A. Unanue Latino Institute will be hosting a trip to El Museo del Barrio in New York City on Friday April 27. The tour is part of a free trip for 40 students that also includes lunch and transportation. The exhibition will be "Testimonio: 100 Years of Popular Expression."

According to El Museo del Barrio's website, the "exhibition celebrates and witnesses mankind's myriad artistic manifestations by highlighting works that have been born under difficult or collaborative circumstances, or for spiritual or communal celebrations." Artists including Gregorio Marz??n, Mart?n Ram?rez and Margarita Cabrera all have work on display, and there are examples from Latino, Caribbean and Latin American cultures.

The Testimonio exhibit will end on May 6. Regular admission fees vary. Admission for members and children under 12 is free.

The Latino Institute's previous free trip was to the Goya Foods tour on March 21, which gave students the opportunity to see the facility, meet CEO Bob Unanue and have lunch at the Goya factory in Secaucus. This exclusive tour allowed students to seek business opportunities to see how real factories and corporations work.

Graduate student Andrea Eberhard student said she went on the tour because she wanted to "use real life examples of what people can do with dedication and have an inspiring story to share with the students."

Seton Hall students and faculty walked through the 85,000 square foot facility and saw the 175 different stock keeping units and 1,700 different items offered.

In an interview, Joseph Unanue elaborated on his partnership with Michelle Obama and MiPlato to enforce healthy eating and portions.

"To be successful, work hard, know your product and know your consumer," Unanue said.
