Men's basketball coach Kevin Willard made a big splash in the world of recruiting on Friday afternoon when ESPN Super 60 recruit and Baltimore, Md. native Aquille Carr announced via his twitter that he would be taking his talents to Seton Hall.
The 5-foot-6 high school junior point guard from Patterson High School told his Twitter followers that Friday would be the day of his verbal commitment and he did not disappoint.
"Seton Hall," Carr tweeted on Friday afternoon. "Thanks to everyone that pushed me to where I'm at."
According to ESPN's recruiting page, "Carr is one of the quickest and most explosive players in the country, regardless of class, and plays the game with tremendous confidence and style. He is a blur in the open floor with a gear beyond most others but also starts and stops on a dime."
ESPN currently grades him at a 94 among class of 2013 recruits while Rivals.com has him as a four-star recruit and the 26th best player in the nation. Carr is a highly touted point guard prospect with excellent ball-handling skills and a flair for fancy passing and impossible looking shots, mostly due to his short stature.
In November of 2011, Carr, nicknamed "The Crime Stopper", was the subject of a feature story in GQ magazine, giving him even more national attention than he was already receiving.
Carr made more news in May of 2011 when he was offered a lucrative contract from an Italian club basketball team and the former squad of NBA star Brandon Jennings, Lottomatica Virtus Roma, after averaging nearly 40 points per game in a tournament held in Milan, Italy. The deal was worth a reported $750,000.
Senior Jordan Theodore was proclaiming his excitement about the decision just moments after Carr committed. Theodore tweeted, "[Shout out] to the new member of the Pirates, @CantGuard3 (Aquille Carr). Welcome aboard boy!"
Carr also received scholarship offers from Connecticut, South Florida, Texas, Xavier, and Memphis and at one point had schools such as Wake Forest, Louisville, Kentucky, and Syracuse recruiting him.
