The Seton Hall men's basketball team received some good news on Tuesday afternoon when team doctors gave freshman forward Brandon Mobley clearance to resume basketball activities, meaning he can suit up as early as Sunday.
Mobley, a 6-foot-9 forward from Savannah, Ga., dislocated his right shoulder, which tore his labrum, while playing basketball in the New Jersey Shore League this past summer, sidelining him for the Pirates' first nine games of the season.
"We're very happy to have Brandon back and that added depth in our frontcourt," head coach Kevin Willard said in a press release on Tuesday afternoon. "Our medical staff, headed by Dr. Anthony Festa and team trainer Tony Testa, has done a remarkable job in rehabilitating Brandon and getting him ready for court action."
The addition of Mobley gives much needed depth to a Pirates squad that has six players average over 23 minutes per game and takes pressure off senior forward Herb Pope.
According to ESPN.com's recruiting report, Mobley is a long, athletic power forward with good quickness, jumping ability, and can run the floor well for scoring opportunities. ESPN.com also refers to Mobley as "an extremely talented rebounder."
In high school, Mobley averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and three blocks per game in his only year at St. John's Northwestern Military Academy in Wisconsin. As a high school senior in Georgia, he was First Team All-State, All-Region and Region Most Valuable Player while at Grove High School, where his team finished with a 28-2 record.
Mobley will be allowed to suit up when the Pirates are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host the Mercer Bears at the Prudential Center. Tip-off if scheduled for 12 p.m.
