Newsies'

The Broadway rumor mill is churning, exciting both longtime and new fans of the Disney

musical "Newsies."

The musical, with music by frequent Disney collaborator Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman and dialogue by Broadway legend Harvey Fierstein, gathered rave reviews for its run at Millburn's Paper Mill Playhouse. Now that "Newsies'" run is scheduled to end on Sunday, many are wondering if the show will simply move its success to Broadway. New York Times Arts Beat blogger Patrick Healy reports that Broadway big-shots such as the Nederlander Organization and Jujamcyn Theaters are in discussions with Disney about opening the show at one of their theaters.

"Newsies" tells the story of a bunch of newsboys growing up and selling papers in New York City during America's Great Depression. Disney first released "Newsies" as a feature length movie in 1992; it starred Bill Pullman and a young Christian Bale and had popular songs such as "Carrying the Banner" and "King of New York."

If "Newsies" does open on Broadway, it most likely will not be until spring 2012.
