With front man Brian Fallon playing acoustic shows in Europe with Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music) and Dan Andriano (Alkaline Trio) on the Revival Tour, American fans of New Jersey punk rockers The Gaslight Anthem have been patiently waiting for new material or a chance to see the band.
After leaking on the internet, the band's iTunes Session that was supposed to be released on Dec. 13, went on sale last week.
Half of the session is covers of classic rock songs. The band tackles The Who's epic "Baba O'Riley" in a very unconventional way that translates the famous synthesizer part on a heavy distorted guitar. Other covers on the session include Pearl Jam's "State of Love and Trust," a song the band is known to cover at live shows and Tom Petty's "Refugee".
"Our Fathers Sons," a new song, has a typical Gaslight slowed down verse and nostalgic, more upbeat chorus.
The two songs that fans will recognize most on the session are previous releases "Boxer" and "The Navesink Banks."
The Gaslight Anthem will be playing at Asbury Park Convention Hall on Dec. 9 with Bayside. It will be the band's final show before they hit go into the studio to make their fourth album.
