With the game scoreless and on its way to overtime senior Ashley Beamish picked up a loose ball at the top of the six yard box and found the back of the net with 1:30 remaining to defeat St. John's.
"I don't think I'll ever forget it," Beamish said. "It didn't even seem real."
The goal from Beamish was her second of the season and could not have come at a better time. The goal finally came after the Pirates controlled most of the play in the second half.
"We were pressing and pressing very," head coach Kazbek Tambi said. "We were very confident in our team to get that goal and it was just a matter of when and the sooner the better."
The win gave the Pirates their second win in the history of the Big East Tournament, with the other coming in 1999. It also avenged the Hall's 2-0 to the Red Storm the last time they were in the Big East tournament in 2006.
"It was gigantic," Tambi said of the win. "We were so proud of the kids getting us to the playoffs. To win the first playoff game as they did, to really hang in there and go for it."
Next for the Pirates will be the No. 1 seeded West Virginia Mountaineers. Earlier this season the Hall lost to the Mountaineers 4-0 in Morgantown.
"We are a much better team now," Tambi said. "That was over a month ago and we need to focus in on every play. Need to empty the tank out on that field."
No starting time has been made yet for the West Virginia game on Saturday.
"It will help going in with the adrenaline from this game and the excitement from it," Beamish said.
