The Student Government Association discussed ways to get involved in upcoming events around campus at their weekly Monday evening meeting.
Among several events that were discussed, SGA started with a concert in honor of Jessica Moore that the organization will be involved in throughout the night.
"The concert is in honor of Jessica Moore and is on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.," President Derel Stroud said.
The concert will be held in the Main Lounge and will be sponsored by P.O.E.T.I.C, according to Stroud.
P.O.E.T.I.C is an organization designed to create an environment for people to strengthen their abilities with music, spoken word, and dance.
SGA is also trying to foster involvement in the DOVE program, Service on Saturdays, according to Vice President Brian Fucci.
"I've talked to Rae Esmores and she said SOS is having record low numbers this year," Fucci said.
Fucci expressed that he was sad to see an organization that is so good for the community not getting the numbers it needs.
According to Fucci, SGA has to set an example for the student body by going to SOS.
"Everyone has to get out there and get involved and you have to get others to get involved too," Fucci said.
According to Fucci, the student body has to be active in SOS and keep the program alive.
SGA also discussed a library survey that they would like to give to the student body lead by Senator Drew Holden.
The survey is going to be used to figure out how students feel about library hours, according to Holden.
The survey is expected to start at the end of University Weekend and be open for two weeks.
For the first week, SGA members will walk around campus surveying students in high traffic areas, according to Holden.
The survey will separate undergraduate students from graduate students to get different perspectives on what the student body wants, according to Holden.
"We want to go out and survey students around campus with iTouchs to get as large of a sample size as we can," Holden said.
Holden also spoke about a meeting with Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the Whitehead School, Courtney Smith.
According to Holden, they are discussing instituting a psychology requirement for diplomacy majors.
