Continuing to stay undefeated the women's soccer team shutout the Monmouth Hawks on the road 1-0. The win improves the Hall's record to 2-0, their best start since 2007 when they started 3-0.
Despite only winning by one goal, the Pirates controlled possession most of the game outshooting the Hawks 14-4 while holding the 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Redshirt junior Stephanie Soma lead the team in shots with four in the contest and added an assist on the only goal of the game. Sophomore Katie Ritter scored the lone goal on her only shot of the game.
The game was preserved by junior goalkeeper Jennifer Pettigrew made three saves in a shutout performance.
The game remained scoreless until the 70 minute. Soma sent a long pass towards Ritter that brought out the Hawks junior goalkeeper Ally Mancino to challenge the ball. Ritter made a move to get past Mancino and scored on an empty net.
With the assist Soma leads the team with one goal and one assist for three points.
In the season opener a goal from senior Taylor Wilson in the second overtime gave the Pirates the 3-2 victory over the Fordham Rams.
Both teams had high shot totals with the Hall holding the 19-17 advantage.
Soma led the team in shots with four shots while adding a goal with Wilson and senior Caitlyn Milazzo scoring the other goals for the Pirates.
The Rams took the lead only five minutes into the game with a header by freshman Kristina Maksuti found the back of the net.
11 minutes later the Hall tied the score at 1-1 with Soma taking a pass from sophomore Ashley Clarke past Fordham's junior goalkeeper Rachel Suther for an uncontested goal.
The Hall took their first lead of the contest in the 51 minute with a goal from Milazzo. Milazzo received a pass from senior Ashley Beamish and fired a shot into the upper right corner of the goal for her first in her career.
The lead did not last long as Fordham evened up the game three minutes later with Maksuti scoring her second goal.
Neither team was able to score before regulation ended and the match went into overtime. It took until the second overtime to get a winner with Wilson making a run and taking a shot from 35 yards out that beat Suther for the winner.
The women's soccer team looks to keep their record unblemished on Monday, Aug 29 against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at Owen T. Carroll field at 7 p.m.
