SOPAC deserves credit for accepting student feedback

The South Orange Performing Arts Center's decision to work with five Seton Hall students and conduct a market research survey shows the organization is committed to improving its programming and appeal more to students.

It is no secret that Seton Hall is a major partner with SOPAC and in 2004 decided to commit $1 million over 20 years to the performing arts center. Multiple members of the Seton Hall Community, including University President Gabriel Esteban and Dennis Garbini, vice president of Finance and Technology, sit on the SOPAC Board of Governors and multiple University music and theater programs are held on the SOPAC stage.

We hope the marketing survey will increase student attendance at SOPAC events. If SOPAC is truly interested in appealing to a student audience, then they should work to increase awareness of their student initiatives and work to provide more student-targeted programming.

SOPAC's cooperation with a student group's class project and decision to consider implementing changes to their student marketing and programming strategies is evidence of their commitment to making the most of the student market that Seton Hall provides to the community.
