Poor rebounding leads to Pirates defeat

The Seton Hall Pirates lost to No. 5 Pittsburgh Panthers 74-53 on the road at the Peterson Events Center.

Forward Herb Pope led all scorers with 15 points, to go with 10 rebounds.

Center Gary McGhee led all Panthers scorers with 13 points.

The Pirates' defense held the Panthers to just 41.7 percent from the floor and 36.8 percent from three point range. Pittsburgh is shooting over 60 percent on the season from beyond the arc.

The Hall also held Panther guards Brad Wanamaker and Ashton Gibbs to single digit scoring. Gibbs is averaging 16 points per game and Wanamaker typically scored 13 points per game.

The Pirates were outrebounded by Pittsburgh 45-26. The Panthers had 18 offensive rebounds.

Junior guard Jordan Theodore had 11 points in the game and senior forward Jeff Robinson added 10 points.

Freshman forward Fuquan Edwin scored just four points off of the bench. He shot just 2-6 in the game, including two missed uncontested layups.

Senior guard Jeremy Hazell had his worst game of the season. He scored seven points, going 2-12 from the floor.

The Pirates are now 5-20 all time at Pittsburgh.

Seton Hall returns home for a matchup against No. 19 Georgetown on Tuesday night.
