Women's swim improves already perfect record

This past weekend at the Patriot Invitational the men's swimming and diving team finished fourth while the women's swimming and diving team finished fifth.

The men's team was led by senior Kevin Webster who finished the weekend placing first in four races. Webster also broke a 17-year-old Seton Hall University Record in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:26.17. This is Webster's seventh broken school record in his four-year Seton Hall career.

Also during the meet, freshman Tyler Naumann, senior Nick Naumann, senior Mike Oldham and freshman Jon Ropson joined 13 others on the team with qualifying times to compete in the BIG EAST Championship this coming February.

For the women's team, freshman Kerrie Kolackovsky and junior diver Brittany Hervey each finished with a first place score.

Kolackovsky broke her previous school record to record the best time in school history in the 200-yard breaststroke. This is Kolackovsky's third broken record as a freshman.

"It felt good but I know I couldn't have done it without my team behind me," she said.

At the end of the weekend, a total of 19 members of the women's team qualified for the BIG EAST Championship. The four members who were added after the weekend meet are freshman Paige Calkins, sophomore Marielle O'Connor, junior Megan Rathbun and sophomore Carly Winton.

On Dec. 6, both the men's and women's teams took on Montclair State University in the Richie Regan Recreation and Athletic Center.

The men's team defeated Montclair by the score of 134-91 to extend their record to 7-1. The men earned the top three places in five individual events.

First place times were set by T. Naumann, junior Pete Gingeleskie, sophomore Brian Pauling, senior Kenny Pritchard, freshman Evan Forbes and freshman Greg Black. Junior Will Penny finished first in the one-meter diving event.

On Monday night, the women's team doubled Montclair's score, winning 152-76. The win continued their undefeated streak and improved their record to 8-0.

"There is added pressure because everyone is out to beat you but I just try not to think about being undefeated," Kolackovsky said. "Instead, I just keep doing my best."
