The volleyball team won their second consecutive match by defeating St. John's, 3-2, on Sunday, (25-13, 27-25, 16-25, 16-25, 15-13), putting the teams record at 10-14 overall and 4-4 in the Big East.
DeVries and Hugeback also combined for a block that gave the Pirates a 13-5 lead over the Red Storm in the first set.
Later Matuisiak had two aces that were part of a 5-0 run from the Pirates that would bring the set to 20-10. A pair of kills from Wrobel won the first set for the Hall, 25-13.
The second set was tied at 21, until Hugeback put the Pirates ahead by one with a kill.
The Red Storm tied the match at 22, and then at match point St. John's would score three in a row to take the lead, 25-24.
With a service error by the Red Storm evening the score at 25, the Hall followed up with two straight points, taking the set 27-25.
In sets three and four, St. John's took both sets to tie the match at 2-2. In the sets the Red Storm defeated the Hall 25-16 to put the match into a fifth set.
The fifth set was tied at 13 before a Matusiak kill and a Worbel block won the set in favor of the Pirates 15-13 and the match 3-2.
Pirate senior Sarah Osmun led the Hall with 19 kills and 12 digs. Junior Meghan Matusiak added 16 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Hannah Hugeback also had 12 kills and seven digs.
Freshman Alyssa Warren led the team with 17 digs.
"Hugeback, Osmun, and Matuisiak are the team's three best weapons," head coach Kris Zeiter said.
Sophomore Olivia Trudeau led the Pirates with 57 assists in the match.
Senior Diana Banya led the Red Storm with 21 kills in the match.
On Friday, the Hall defeated the Connecticut Huskies, 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 15-8).
"Any win in the Big East is a big win, especially on the road," Zeiter said. "Connecticut played the best I have seen them play."
With the first set tied at 16, the Huskies won four straight points. Despite the Pirates taking the next two points, with a pair of kills from Matusiak, the Hall fell 25-23.
The Pirates would fall behind late in sets two and three 22-21 in each set, before coming back and defeating the Huskies 25-23 in sets two and three.
In the fourth set, the Pirates and Huskies would exchange the lead twice with six tie scores until Connecticut won the set 25-21 to tie the match at two sets a piece.
The fifth set started with the Pirates taking an early 9-2 lead, before the Huskies closed the gap with four straight points makign the set 9-6 in favor to the Hall.
The Pirates finished the set on a 6-2 run winning the set 15-8 and the match 3-2.
Matusiak led the Hall with 19 kills and 11 digs, Hugeback, was not far behind with 14 kills and 20 digs, while Osmun had 12 kills and 19 digs.
Rebecca Murray led the Huskies with 21 kills.
The Pirates next head to Tampa, Fl. to face the University of South Florida Bulls on Friday.
