The Pirates lost their eight straight loss, this time at the hands of West Virginia, 53-31 on Wednesday in Morgantown, W. Va. The loss marks the first 0-8 start in Big East play in Seton Hall history. Junior Ebonie Williams scored more than half of the points for the Hall, finishing with 17.No other Pirate had more than six points.They turned the ball over 18 times, leading to 14 Mountaineer points.The Pirates fell to Cincinnati, 64-47, Saturday at Walsh Gymnasium dropping them to 8-12 (0-7) on the year. Williams and sophomore Kandice Green led the scoring for thePirates as they netted 14 points each.Forward Michelle Jones led the Bearcats with 21 points and nine rebounds. Green notched four of her points early and helped the Pirates to attain a 6-2 lead after the first three minutes. But a three-point play from Jones gave the Bearcats a 7-6 advantage.Senior Nicole Emery scored a layup that finished a 6-2 run to regain the lead for the Hall. Roudebush knocked down her first three-pointer at 11:02 followed by a jumper from Cincinnati's Shareese Ulis. This brought the score to 20-16 in favor of the Bearcats.Williams scored from beyond the arc with 1:28 remaining in the first half. The Pirates led at halftime, 26-22.The Pirates were down by six midway through the second half. Roudebush extended the deficit to nine with a three-pointer as the shot clock expired. The Pirates did not get within single digits during the remainder of the game. They shot 24.1 percent from the field and knocked down six of 18 attempts from the free throw line in the second half. Head coach Phyllis Mangina said,"We're getting a lot of good shots, we just need to get everybody to relax and then maybe those shots will fall."Mangina did commend the team on its defensive effort. "We are forcing turnovers but we need to get the points off of them," she said. The Pirates also lost to DePaul at home on Tuesday, 73-69. Green led the Pirates in scoring with 23 points. She shot 7-15 from the floor and hit nine of 10 free throw attempts.The Blue Demons were ahead by five points at halftime. They scored the first 12 points of the second half in less than two minutes.The Pirates responded with eight straight points. A three-pointer from Williams and a jumper from Green brought them within one. Green tied the game at 65 all with a foul shot.Emery broke the tie and brought the Pirates ahead by two with 1:59 remaining. But DePaul's Sam Quigley gained the lead for the visitors with a three-point play and an additional pair of free throws.Williams tried to force overtime with a 26-footer however it was slightly off the mark. The Pirates shot 42.6 percent while the Blue Demons shot 37.5 percent. "In the last couple of plays, we could have executed better," Green said. "There were some loose balls we could have dove for."Tournament hopes are still alive in the opinion of Green. "Anybody can get beat on any given day," Green said.
