Pirates down Cornell

Jeremy Hazell scored 33 points to lead the Pirates to a 89-79 victory over the defending Ivy League champion Cornell in Itaca, N.Y. on Friday night.

This was the first win for a road team at Cornell's Newman Arena since 2007.

The Big Red started the game with an 8-0 run, before Herb Pope got the Pirates on the board.

Off the bench, sophomore Jordan Theodore had a career-high 20 points and four assists.

At halftime, the Pirates held a 40-35 lead, with Hazell having 14 points and Theodore 13.

The Hall pulled away in the second half, at one point holding an 18 point lead before allowing Cornell to crawl back into the game in the final minutes.

Pope and Robert Mitchell both finished with double-doubles for the Pirates.

For the Big Red, guard Ryan Wittman led the team with 24 points.

The Pirates return to action on November 28 when they host LIU at Prudential Center. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
