In one recruit, men's basketball head coach Bobby Gonzalez seemingly filled two crucial spots on his roster: a reserve power forward, and the other in having a newcomer with a full four years of NCAA eligibility.
Ferrakohn Hall was announced as the latest signing in the 2009-2010 recruiting class for Seton Hall late last week. The 6-foot-8 power forward comes to South Orange by way of White Station High School in Memphis, Tenn., where he was a First Team All-State selection during his senior year.
"All three schools would've been good situations, but I felt like, being in New York, I'd get a lot of publicity and I'd get a good chance to make it to the next level," Hall said to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
Hall will join junior college guard Jamel Jackson and three much-hyped transfers (in forward Herb Pope and guards Keon Lawrence and Jeff Robinson) to play for the Pirates next season.
"Recently, his recruiting became really intense with a number of major schools coming hard at him," Gonzalez said of Hall. "He's a terrific kid from a good family and he takes his school work very seriously."
According to Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog.com, Hall picked the Pirates over Baylor and the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
He averaged 15 points per game and nine rebounds per game as a senior at White Station, earning a nomination to be selected for the McDonald's All-American team. During his junior year, Hall only played in four games.
But in his two years at White Station, he helped the Spartans earn a 58-20 mark including a state championship and a second place finish the year before. He played at Memphis University School for his first two years of high school before transferring.
In state tournament play, Hall compiled a 13.3 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game averages.
Rivals.com listed Hall as the No. 46 power forward recruit in the country.
